Trial Workouts: Southpointe Fieldhouse March 23, 25, 30 & April 1

You’re Invited to Attend – For Free!

The rumors are true. The buzz is legit.

FOCUS is offering four(4) opportunities to attend Free Trial Workouts at the Southpointe Fieldhouse the last two weeks of March. These demo sessions will showcase the upcoming TOTAL FOCUS Speed, Agility, Conditioning programs available to athletes starting early April. You’re invited to take part and experience first hand what’s in store for athletes south of Pittsburgh.

The demo workouts will cover all 8 exclusive components that make up The FOCUS System. I’ll be teaching a dynamic warm-up, the proper way to prepare the body for speed. You’ll be doing various balance and core training exercises.

Athletes will get exposed to what first step quickness really means and learn why most coaches teach this incorrectly. We’ll set up agility stations and work on movements that carry-over to your sport. Best of all, everything we do hinges on becoming a faster, explosive, and dominant athlete.

Accelerate The Process

Michael Dunn

Since April 12, 2009 Michael Dunn has grown… and grown a lot. This freshman football player from Bishop Canevin has added 30 pounds to be exact. How? He follows our program. Four workouts per every seven days. Weekends don’t stop him, and neither does vacations, holidays, or snow. No short cuts or train today maybe tomorrow attitude. Fellow strength coach Carlo Alvarez once said “Athletes will grow on their own. It’s our job to accelerate the process.” Michael’s foot is pinned to the accelerator. Good for him. Bad for you.

Don’t let athletes like Michael continue to pass you by. Make the call to (724) 747-6229 and get started. Today is your day.

Dedicated?

Training in the snowYes… Pittsburgh gets cold in the winter. But, that shouldn’t stop you – and neither should anything else. Thank goodness our workouts are inside two of the best facilities in western PA. To be considered a FOCUS DIEHARD you have to display certain characteristics and earn the status. Do you have the look in your eyes? Would you question me if I told you tomorrow’s workout would be outside using the equipment from the picture above?

Make the call to (724) 747-6229 and get in on the same action athletes from 7 different school districts are experiencing now.

My 10 Biggest Mistakes In 10 Years

As another decade comes to a close, the end of 2009 marks 10 full years I’ve been a strength, speed, and conditioning coach. There’s been ups and downs, and many “AH-HA” moments. Below you’ll find, in no particular order, the 10 biggest mistakes I’ve made. People have created lists like this before… now you’ll have insight how far I’ve come.

mistakes11. Not listening to other people’s explanations before forming an opinion

Steven R. Covey says to “Seek first to understand before being understood”. I’ve embarrassed myself more than once by derailing fitness programs before I knew all the details. Not anymore.

2. Not reading 7 Habits of Highly Effective People sooner

Speaking of Steven R. Covey, his book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has been a guiding factor in my coaching, mentoring, and personal relationships. Buy the book today and actually read it.

 3. Coaching with a my-way or high-way attitude

Since I’ve opened myself to different training beliefs, I’ve become a smarter coach and better asset to my athletes. You’ll never know everything – that’s a fact.

I can’t say enough about Coach Erica Hall.. someone who was willing to go outside her comfort zone, seek my help, and provide opportunities for her athletes. After taking over the head coaching responsibilities for soccer this year, Coach Hall knew she had to create change. And did she ever. Here’s what she had to say:

46 Medicine Ball Exercises For You

MB Throws

Using medicine balls in your workouts?? If you’re not – start. Immediately. Medicine balls just might be the most versatile bang for your buck. I’ve been using Dynamax medicine balls for Upper Saint Clair’s preseason conditioning and can honestly see an overall difference the last 4 weeks. The girls are more fit, explosive, stronger, and aggressive than the last four years. Not sure what the season holds for the team, but I do know they’ll be ready physically.

Attached you’ll find the 46 medicine ball exercises I’m using, in different combinations, with the athletes. Print these out and get to work. (Note: not all the movements have descriptions. If you need explanations, shoot me an email and I’ll help you out.)
